Mechanical Stingray Sculpture
This handcrafted mechanical stingray reimagines one of the ocean's most graceful gliders as a biomechanical artifact. A translucent mint-green resin disc forms the creature's wing-like pectoral fins, edged in polished metal; turn it over, and the ventral side reveals an exposed engine of gears, springs, brass fittings and twin propulsor-style fins, as though the ray were powered by clockwork rather than water.
Materials & Craftsmanship
- Glossy seafoam-green resin body for the disc-shaped wings, shaped by hand and trimmed with a silver-toned metal rim
- Exposed metal ventral mechanism, gearwork, coil springs, brass pipes and twin paddle-like propulsor fins
- Slender articulated metal tail, tipped in brass
- Illuminated features: deep red LED eye and a glowing red ventral core that light up in low light, turning the sculpture into a quiet night lamp
- Suspended display: the ray is mounted on a thin metal rod and held above a solid round wooden base, giving the impression that it is hovering mid-swim; the base is fastened with vintage-style metal rivets
Dimensions
- Length: 35 cm | Width (wing span): 28 cm | Total height: 10 cm (13.8" × 11.0" × 3.9")
- A low, horizontal floating silhouette — a statement centerpiece for a desk, bookshelf, mantel or nautical / steampunk display shelf.
A piece for collectors
Born from the same biomechanical series as our mechanical gecko and beetle larva, this stingray is made for lovers of oceanic oddities, deep-sea aesthetics and industrial-exotic decor. In daylight it is a sculptural study in mint green and chrome; in the dark it becomes a red-glowing apparition from the abyss. Each piece is hand-assembled, so no two are exactly alike.
