Mechanical Dynastes Hercules Larva Sculpture
A larva reimagined as a precision machine.
This handcrafted sculpture captures the C-curved, fleshy body of a Hercules beetle larva (Dynastes hercules), the juvenile form of one of the world's most iconic rhinoceros beetles and reinterprets it through a biomechanical, steampunk lens. What begins as a soft biological form becomes a study in contrast: luminous resin skin meets exposed brass rivets, copper-toned articulated legs and a riveted industrial base.
Materials & Craftsmanship
- High-gloss green resin body, hand-shaped and painted in layered gradients from lime to emerald, reproducing the segmented, padded texture of a real beetle grub
- Glossy black resin head capsule with polished metallic rim
- Brass-toned metal inlays distributed along the back, evoking the larva's spiracles
- Three pairs of articulated brown-copper metal legs, each ending in a hooked claw, mounted on spring-steel tendons
- Textured black display base in a pebbled / leather-grain finish, fastened with silver metal rivets along every edge
Dimensions
- Sculpture on base: 17 × 5 × 6 cm (6.7" × 2.0" × 2.4")
- Compact desktop scale, sits on a desk, shelf, bookshelf or inside a glass curio cabinet without dominating the room.
